Visiting Ballarat for the First Time!

Ballarat through my eyes as a local of 7 years.

What's on in Ballarat

Lake Wendouree

Swamp land dammed in 1861.

Food:  If you want to sit, enjoy the water view whilst having a cold glass of wine or enjoying one of the many restaurant’s.  Lake Wendouree caters for you.

Exercise:  5.9kms of beautiful walking or running track with outdoor gym equipment available to you.

Children:  Fairyland gives you to chance to walk amongst wildlife and provide your children the chance to see birds up close,  or the outdoor children’s playground, will definitely create an experience of fun for them whilst travelling to Ballarat.

Water Activities Rowing

1956 Summer Olympics, Lake Wendouree hosted the Rowing. the 2000mt course is now home for local rowing, and regatta's throughout each year.

Steve Moneghetti Walking Track

5.9kms around the lake with many distractions to experience. From open park gym equipment, Fairyland & a wonderful children's outdoor playground.

Restaurant Experience

My view from one of the many occasions that I have eaten seafood at "The Boat Shed'. If you want al al la carte menu then across the road is Lake View, or the Yatch Club.

Children's Playground

If it is fresh air, and fun for your children, this playground is one to visit. When the children get bored, a quick walk to Fairyland, will provide a close up experience with many types of birds that live here.

Local Tourist Attractions

Soverign Hill

My favourite time is Christmas in July, where at dusk the streets and buildings are lit up and the snow falls. However, day or nighttime there is everything you want to experience here of the people who lived in the times of the Gold Rush in Ballarat.

Eureka Centre

Tells the story of the people and events leading up to 3rd Dec 1854. The Rebellion by the gold miners is known as the birth of Democracy in Australia. Here the original flag flown in the rebellion exists. A piece of history.

Ballarat Turf Club

Country Horse Racing is a great family experience. Stoll around the stables visiting the horses, watch the parade ring activity or enjoy a meal in the upstairs restaurant with the best views you can imagine. There are 36 races on during the year to go to.

Ballarat Wildlife Park

A family owned park for conservation and recreation. you will enjoy an interactive experience of some of Australia's unique animals, as well as some exotic species including Reptiles, Meerkats & Tigers.
